Engraving 101 - Why Bourbon and Bull's Engraving is Superior

NOT ALL ENGRAVING IS EQUAL. We do competitor analysis' and we constantly find a huge difference in the quality of engraving.
We find that some of the biggest advertisers of engraved glass, deliver the lowest quality.

On the low end is laser engraved glass, shown on the left below.  A CO2 laser produces an image on glass. The image forms by fracturing the glass in a pattern that is your image. The laser produces a pulse of heat that breaks the outside part of the glass in tiny pieces. These pieces sit on top of the glass and can actually fall out over time as the glass heats and cools. On the left below is a closeup of simple laser engraving that most decanter engravers deliver.

This type of engraving is the fastest
and least cost method, although many
companies market this method as
something more. It is not.
What further
cheapens the look is art that doesn't fit
the method. As you can see in the picture,
the art is too detailed for the engraving
settings and much of the detail is lost.
This indicates that perhaps the company
either doesn't know or doesn't care.
